An XMM-Newton observation of the flare star AU Mic
Abstract
dMe stars are highly active stars, producing frequent energetic flares from radio to X-ray wavelengths. They have both hot energetic coronae and strong magnetic fields. The dM1e star AU Mic is one of the most X-ray luminous flare stars within the solar neighbourhood and has in previous observations exhibited numerous flares as well as modulation in the optical light curve arising from large spot coverage. Here we present data from an XMM-Newton observation of AU Mic, with preliminary analysis of the thermal structure and densities within its corona during several flares.
